Summary of Job Duties:
Under general direction of the Supply Chain Manager, responsible for the planning, quoting and purchasing of raw material/finished goods inventory, specifically electronic, mechanical and Printed Circuit Card Assemblies and associated supplies, contract electronic manufactured products, and capital goods. Routinely satisfies the goal of planning, quoting and purchasing the right products, with excellent quality, at optimal value price, and on time.
Primary responsibility is to procure/quote materials and services at the lowest cost, in the most efficient manner possible
Interface with the electronics supply chain, internally with marketing, sales, engineering, purchasing, operations, and finance to develop on-time proposals with the greatest value to both customer and Qual-Pro
Initiate RFQʼs and evaluate supplier bids and contracts
Coordinate outside processing with sub-contractors
Coordinate supplier involvement in product development efforts
Coordinating all cross-functional quote and proposal activities, including the critical data review and approval process – “cradle to grave.”
Validate quote worksheets through various methods including verbal and written correspondence, engineering verification and light research
Assist in qualifying new suppliers
Manage and develop relationships with suppliers to reduce costs and improve
quality including on-time deliveries
Work with Project Managers/Production Control in expediting materials
Work with Quality and Engineering to resolve quality challenges
Working closely with sales people to customize proposals. Presenting proposals to customers in a consistent Qual-Pro format.
Work with finance to resolve potential invoice/PO variances
Assisting in follow up with outstanding sales proposals in an effort to win
purchase orders from customers.
Overseeing maintenance of proposal databases and ensuring accuracy of quote log. Searches inventory records or warehouse to determine if material on hand is in sufficient quantity.
Consults websites and interviews suppliers to obtain prices and specifications.
Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates with suppliers.
Required education, experience and attributes of a successful candidate:
Must have previous experience in a contract manufacturing or OEM environment.
Minimum of 5-10 years experience in an electronics manufacturing environment as a buyer/quoter. Alternatively, minimum 5 years experience in the electronics distribution industry.
Bachelorʼs degree or equivalent
Experienced in and thorough knowledge of MRP, Bill of Materials, Inventory and Production Control, including automated purchase order systems
Detailed knowledge of commercial electronics and components, including military specifications, medical requirements, avionics, aerospace, NADCAP, ITAR, and contract requirements
Experienced in procuring PCBs, fabricated items (sheet metal, injection molded and machined), electronic commodities (passive and active components), cable assemblies and process/MRO materials to support production
Ability to read blueprints, manufacturerʼs data sheets, fabrication and assembly drawings
Familiarity with schematics and Gerber files
Ability to negotiate favorable terms and continuously improve pricing for materials and services (PPV)
Proven track record of positive and long-standing relationships with vendors and suppliers– More specifically (Avnet, Arrow, Future, TI, PCB suppliers, sheet metal suppliers, cable suppliers)
Ability to source new and alternative suppliers
Proficient in Excel and Word (Microsoft Access a plus)
Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision
Must have exceptional oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with project managers, co-workers, as well as all departments in the company
Must be detail oriented within a fast-paced environment
APICS certification is desirable
Must understand NADCAP, AS9100, ISO13485, FDA, COMSEC, ITAR buying requirements – CAGE Codes, EOL and obsolescence buying
