LOS ANGELES, CA – March 10, 2009 – Qual-Pro has been awarded the 2009 Department of Defense (DOD) Nunn-Perry Award. This prestigious award, named in recognition of former Senator Sam Nunn and former Secretary of Defense William Perry, recognizes superior performance by teams formed and approved under the DOD’s Mentor-Protégé program. This award is given annually at the conclusion of the DOD Mentor-Protégé Conference, held this year on March 4th in San Francisco, CA.
Qual-Pro is an electronics manufacturing service (EMS) provider and is the only EMS provider to win the award in 2009. Qual-Pro is a woman and veteran owned, small business founded in 1971 by Gerald and Sally Shane. The company is in its second generation of ownership by the Shane family.
Qual-Pro formed a Mentor-Protégé relationship with Northrop Grumman Corporation Space Technology Sector (NGST) in 2006. In its first year in the program, Qual-Pro secured dozens of new contracts totaling several million dollars. Qual-Pro is a preferred sub-contractor for a number of prime contractors to the DOD, including Boeing, L3 Communications, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon. As part of the Mentor-Protégé relationship with NGST, Qual-Pro developed expertise in complex electronics assembly operations including RF cable assembly. To meet client needs, Qual-Pro increased its employee base by 75% and increased its manufacturing space 300% over the same time period.
Qual-Pro has enjoyed a steady increase in contract awards over the past three years in all five of its operating sectors: Aerospace, Medical, Industrial, Commercial and Automotive.
